Room Lighting Planner
Answer a few questions about your room and get an estimated lighting plan: a lumens range, a suggested ambient/task/accent split, and a color-temperature range to shop for. This is a planning estimate, not a professional lighting design — see our methodology for how it is calculated.

When to consult a professional
- Adding, moving, or replacing a wall switch, outlet, or electrical box.
- Installing new recessed, track, or hardwired ceiling fixtures.
- Any work inside a breaker panel or on home wiring.
- Signs of a wiring problem, such as warm switch plates, burning smells, or frequently tripped breakers.
- Lighting in damp or wet locations (bathrooms, laundry rooms, exteriors) that does not already have an appropriately rated fixture.
