Editorial Policy
Last updated: January 15, 2026
This policy explains how Lumen & Room approaches research, writing, and ongoing maintenance of the guides on this site. It applies to every guide, category page, and tool on the site.
Editorial independence
Lumen & Room is not affiliated with any lighting manufacturer, retailer, or installation company. We do not accept payment in exchange for favorable coverage of any product category, and we do not currently run advertising on this site. If that changes in the future, our Privacy Policy will be updated accordingly before any such change takes effect.
What we will not publish
- Invented statistics, studies, or named experts. Every factual claim traces back to a real, named, public source, or is clearly framed as general editorial guidance rather than a cited fact.
- Step-by-step instructions for working with household wiring, switches, junction boxes, or breaker panels. Guides that touch on these topics consistently direct readers to a licensed electrician.
- Specific savings promises or specific lifespan guarantees for any bulb or fixture. These vary too much by household to state as fact, and we say so explicitly wherever the topic comes up.
- Reviews, comparisons, or endorsements of specific commercial lighting brands or products.
- Fabricated testimonials, reviews, or user statistics of any kind.
Distinguishing opinion from technical guidance
Where a guide offers a subjective recommendation — a preferred color temperature for a cozy bedroom, for instance — we present it as editorial judgment, not as an objective technical requirement. Where a guide states a technical fact — what a lumen measures, what CRI stands for — it is written to be accurate and verifiable against the public sources listed on our Sources and Methodology page.
Updates and revisions
Each guide displays its original publication date and the date it was last reviewed. Guides are revisited periodically to confirm that general guidance remains current; because our content deliberately avoids citing specific product models or time-sensitive pricing, most guides require only light revision over time. Material corrections are logged through the process described on our Corrections page.
Authorship
Content on Lumen & Room is produced under the byline of the Lumen & Room Editorial Team rather than individual named authors, reflecting that guides are researched, written, and reviewed as a single editorial process rather than the work of one person.
